Learn more about how our Expert Review Committees identified leading pacesetters in their sectors.
Why we built this
Unlock Aid created the Solutions Index to highlight pacesetting innovators that have a strong evidence base, business model sustainability, and local buy-in from the countries and communities they serve. The organizations in this Index are delivering results today – and they are positioned to scale their impact across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and beyond.
The purpose of this Index is not to provide a full landscaping of all solutions providers in global health, food security, or other sectors. Instead, it is designed to give greater visibility and endorsement to some of the pacesetting organizations shaping their fields, that can deliver results more cost-effectively, and in ways that are more financially sustainable, than traditional approaches.
How we built this
The Solutions Index currently focuses on pacesetting organizations improving global health supply chains and addressing food security. In total, more than 190 organizations applied across our two calls for applications.
Each submitting entity answered a series of questions regarding their:
- Track record of results and impact (and delivering measurable results at scale)
- Evidence of local endorsement
- Business model financial sustainability and revenue diversification
- Cost effectiveness, including how unit costs decline with scale
- Commitment to population safety
Our Expert Review Committees evaluated each organization against the above criteria. The organizations selected for inclusion were among the top vote-receiving entities.
Note on humanitarian contexts: Our Expert Committees recognize that operating a sustainable business model in acute humanitarian settings presents unique challenges, especially where markets or governments may be unstable or not exist. We encourage organizations in these contexts to still apply; these factors will be weighted during our holistic review process.

Expert Review Committee
Our Expert Review Committees include leaders and experts in their fields. Their expertise helped ensure a fair and rigorous process.
Note on conflicts of interest: All reviewers disclosed any conflicts and recused themselves from evaluating any organization with which they had a current or recent affiliation. The committee defined a conflict as any financial interest (equity or compensation), governance roles, or direct contracting with a reviewed entity.
